Yee Chuen Do - The Real Tai Chi

This is Sifu's self defense art that blends all of his knowledge and fighting experience from on the street and in the ring.  Sifu began experimenting and engaging in learning Kung Fu at 13 years old. Sifu was a personal friend of Bruce Lee. Sifu has discussed offering his knowledge online and will be found here in the future.

Tai Chi Yang Form

Sifu learned from an 80 year old monk the meaning of the movements which today are misconstrued in the modern Tai Chi forms you may see throughout the world.  The Real Tai Chi has been preserved and has deeper meaning than just the health benefits the form may provide. To know both the meaning and receive the benefit of the authentic Yang Form will be eye opening.  Sifu will be offering this in the future.

What inspired Sifu Tommy to start the Real Tai Chi School?

Sifu Tommy was inspired to start the Real Tai Chi School based on his experiences learning authentic Yang-style Tai Chi from an 80 year old monk named Ling Yan. As a young teenager, Tommy became disillusioned with Tai Chi after witnessing a disappointing public match between a Wu-style Tai Chi master and a White Crane Kung Fu master.

However, he later encountered Ling Yan, who revealed that there were two versions of Yang-style Tai Chi - one taught publicly and a more secretive, martial version passed down to select students. Ling Yan, a closed-door student of the second generation of Yang-style Tai Chi, taught Tommy the original, martial version of the art from age 13 to 18. This experience showed Tommy the effectiveness and depth of "Real" Tai Chi, inspiring him to preserve and promote this authentic lineage.

Over the years, Tommy integrated his Tai Chi knowledge with other martial arts like Wing Chun, Boxing, and Thai boxing. He used scientific principles to analyze and improve techniques, creating a comprehensive system that maintained the essence of traditional and Real Tai Chi while adapting it for modern self-defense needs. This evolved approach, combined with his desire to share the authentic art he learned from Ling Yan, led Sifu Tommy Cheng to establish the Real Tai Chi School.

Tai "CHI"

Yee Chuen Do stands for " The Way Of The Mind." The mind is the most important part of our lives and most important in martial arts.

Chi Kung, also known as Qigong, is indeed an exercise that trains the brain. The brain is what leads the breath and the energy is what is created and follows.

Although there are many types of Chi Kung in the world, Sifu's ancient Chinese practice is unique and specific for the internal martial art.  It combines gentle movements, breath control, and a type of active meditation to cultivate and balance vital energy or "chi."  In addition to the  physical health benefits, Chi Kung's impact on the brain is profound and multifaceted.

Chi Kung acts as a form of moving meditation, which can enhance cognitive function and improves neuroplasticity. Sifu Tommy’s scientific explanations and detailed practice teaches focus and mindfulness, engaging areas of the brain associated with concentration and emotional regulation.

This mental exercise can lead to improved memory, increased attention span, and better overall cognitive performance.

The controlled breathing techniques used in this scientific Chi Kung also play a crucial role in brain health. Deep, reverse breathing increases oxygen flow to the brain, trains the diaphragm improving neural function and reducing stress. This stress reduction aspect is particularly significant, as chronic stress can have detrimental effects on brain structure and function.

Furthermore, the gentle movements of this scientific Qigong promote better blood circulation throughout the body, including the brain. This increased blood flow tends to enhance brain function, potentially reducing the risk of cognitive decline and age-related brain disorders.  Qigong is considered a valuable tool for maintaining and improving brain function throughout one's life.  You can now learn and practice with support from Sifu, and the healing team, Matthew and Dr. Lisa Ancira.
